This is a garden dedicated to the collection, cultivation, and display of a wide range of plants, fruits and medicinal plants from the highlands region of Chiapas. There is no enfrance fee to see this wonderful place dedicated to the conservation of so many plant species in the area. It opens from Tuesday to Saturday, from 9am to 4 pm. They also present educational movies on Wednesday afternoons. Their coffee shop helps fund the organization, as well as your donations (if you like to give one).

Their educational program brings students from primary and secondary schools from San Cristobal and surrounding towns. This place is a magic one in town. Don't miss it!.

View point Iglesia de Guadalupe

Guadalupe virgin church | City view point from the hill

A must visit if you want to appreciate the city. The church is simple and beautiful. A very traditional Mexican church. Views of the city from the outside of the church are breathtaking. You have to try every view in the front and the back of the church. If you come in the first days of December please don't miss this place (PLEASE! DON'T MISS THIS PLACE). The Guadalupe virgin is a very strong part of the Mexican catholic tradition. Fireworks, traditional candies, costumes, colorful dresses, and believe me... A LOT more to see.

Municipal market

Fascinating place if you are looking for something different to see. Be ready to see one of the main activities in the Mayan peoples of today. Indigenous people from the High Lands are one of the main suppliers of vegetables, flowers, and medicinal plants all around the state of Chiapas. The smells, colors, people, and different objects found here will travel to the past. Amazing!!!

Jtatik Samuel Museum

A lovely place to learn about culture and history of Mexico and Chiapas. Samuel Ruiz was a catholic Bishop who spent his life helping projects of peace and better life for the indigenous people of Chiapas. After the first indigenous rebellion in 1869 this house was the place who saw two groups of people come together to talk and solve differences after hundreds of years of problems. Samuel Ruiz was the mediator who took the time and resources to bring them together in this place. This event was the first one of its kind and started the process of making peace and promote respect among people leaving in the highlands of Chiapas.

This is a museum created to rescue history event memories of the state of Chiapas. Indigenous rights and the fight in the pursuit of true justice and peace. Hoping visitors will understand it and bring alive the feelings of generosity, respect, and the wellbeing among humans living in Southern Mexico.

Also there is a timeline that shows the live of Samuel Ruiz where one can see its work in favor of indigenous rights and its impacts in the international scenery. His intervention in the Zapatista (EZLN) movement as a mediator, and his work, in one side to safe human lives, and in the other to deal with the Mexican government to stop the guerrilla.

Steps is a NGO working on preserving indigenous culture in Chiapas Mexico. This is the perfect place for those looking for a cultural experience. They record stories of the indigenous people and try to transmit them to those visiting the high lands of Chiapas. Visit them to know their schedule for cultural demonstration, cooking workshops of traditional indigenous cousine. Learn how to make an authentic mexican dish so you can try back home.

They also run an organization who provides basic education to women and children in the area. Native people rarely have educational oportunities, and some of them can only speak their native language. So, the organization teaches them how to read, write, and think in a logical way. Don't miss them!!!. here is their link to learn more about them.
