Chamula
San Juan Chamula is 10 kilometers far from San Cristobal. It is the biggest Tzotzil Maya town in the highlands of Chiapas. Its cosmovision
and religion are among of the last biggest remaining of the old Mayas. This is a must see if you are looking for a different view of the world. Even for Mexicans
this is an interesting place to see. Make sure you hire a guide at least for a while while there to understand some things you will see, chicken sacrifices,
candles, alcohol drinking
inside the church. Make sure to try things like posh (local alcoholic drink). Their rituals and spiritual prayers are among the most amazing things to
see. It is said the world has to many beautiful things to see in just one life time, if you are in San Cristobal you must try this place. There won't take much effort to
get to this place. Buy a tour
or get there by public transportation close to the municipal market, just make sure you don't miss it. You can go any time during the day.
Arcotete Ecotourism Park
Arcotete is an ecotourism park around 15 minutes driving from San Cristobal's center. Among the activities one can find here

river but good enogh to have fun), camping, and even they have two cabins for rent. Great place to relax for half or one day. To get there from
San Cristobal you can get a Taxi. A trip trip there will cost from 60 to 70 pesos. To come back they have their own taxi company and charges
100 pesos for the trip. 1 to 4 people in the car.
Moxviquil orquideas
They are in charge of protecting two natural reserves (two misty forest) and an orquidiario (orchid garden). It is a beautiful place to
walk and learn about plants, flowers, highlands forest and the work they do to protect it. They have a hiking park great to relax and breath.
Half day in here will be good enogh. Their aim is to teach visitors and local schools about the importance of protecting nature and how we
humans have the ability to maintain it. The xplanations about the place and their work probably will be only in spanish.

Oventic (a Zapatista headquarter)
This Zapatista headquarter is one of five in the state of Chiapas. We locals call them Caracol (plural caracoles). Zapatistas like to see their
caracoles as a window that helps to see their world. The main porpuse of a caracol is to offer a place where Zapatistas communities can meet to organize and
plan their different activities and goals. To visit Oventik you can do it in different ways. One is you can hire a car plus driver service from a local
tour company, you can get a taxi and pay for a round trip to there, or you also could visit this town by your own. It is a nice experience for those
who like the ideals of Zapatismo and rebeldía in Mexico. No one can assure you will let in the day of your visit. This decition is made at the moment you
get to their front gate and you are asked some questions to be let in.
Museo de las Culturas Populares
This is a small place that is only open when they have an exibition to show. If you have the time to check them out please do. There is no fee to see
their exibitions. Art, music, cultural cocumentaries, local clothing, tradional masks and jewls, music instruments and more. They are in the corner of Calle Diego
de Mazariegos and 12 de Octubre. In this are there are also two other places to visit: Museo Sergio Castro and The Amber Museum.
